We are delighted to announce that following extensive development and live environment testing, the Runway Incursion Mitigation system (AIM) has been launched at Doncaster Sheffield/Robin Hood Airport (DSA) and Durham Tees Valley Airport (DTVA).

Peel Airports are leading the world in addressing the growing worldwide safety issue of runway incursions and have now fully installed the AIM system into all airport airside vehicles at their facilities. Health & Safety manager at DSA and DTVA, Shane Berry, is delighted with the accuracy of the system and the ease of deployment. “Anything that reduces the element of airside human error has to be a good idea but the AIM system addresses this and much more with our airside fleet”, he stated. “Although we employed this system specifically for runway incursion mitigation, it is also proving to be a powerful tool due to it’s other capabilities and user-friendly data reporting”.

Additional benefits, outside of safety, are becoming apparent at these airports with increased visibility of compliance checks and procedures already being highlighted as extra benefits. Aside from alerting drivers that they are approaching the complex incursion boundary zones from any direction, regular runway checks for birds or debris are logged along with a host of other data like CO2 emissions. All of this can be accessed through the detailed reporting tools that come as standard.

The system will now be rolled out to many other airports and further developed through 2017 and beyond to include useful extra tools addressing specific issues for the industry worldwide. AIM requires no external communications to work effectively. The system also contains a SMART Cat I, Cat II and Cat III LVP switch which extends or reduces the incursion boundaries depending upon the procedures dictated by ATC at each facility.
